The 2023 Biggest Winner Math Challenge – Summer 2023

This culturally affirming, engaging, rigorous online learning community was designed for students with advanced ability or  interest in mathematics. Projects are designed to build math mastery while exploring SEL competencies,  encouraging self-expression, enhancing financial literacy while working in peer groups working together to solve real world life issues while using the latest digital education platforms. 

Position Summary 

Summer 2023 Ed Inquiry Instructors will work with small groups of students that enjoy math and are ready to learn together in virtual Zoom classrooms 3 days per week. Each day instructors are expected to engage with 3 groups of no more than 15 students in a class.  Your classes will use a blended learning curriculum and engaging, culturally affirming content created by a multi-cultural collective of leading educators. Our Summer Instructors will engage students during sessions starting July 11 through August, a total of  6 weeks. During these 18 days, each Instructor will be assisted in their virtual classroom by a trained high school assistant that has expressed a desire to be a future teacher.  Additionally, our program staff bring a commitment to our mission of unleashing students’ potential  through mentoring and transformative experiences, as well as, the ability to thrive in an environment that values excellence, gratitude, well-being, diversity, authenticity, and collaboration.

This is a seasonal summer virtual position.

Educators of color are strongly urged to apply. 

Responsibilities:

  • Engage students in a real world middle school math class project
  • Inspire students to think deeper about math concepts they will be learning
  • Teach Common Core aligned math skills for grades 6th through 9th 
  • Provide a safe, engaging, and fun online environment conducive to learning 
  • Learn and share the latest learning strategies related to social-emotional growth and survival
  • Work with trained high school intern assistant with desire to become an educator
  • Train and collaborate with math educators across the country virtually
  • Become a contributor to a unique and innovative math program sponsored 

Qualifications:

  • Proven success as an educator who can inspire children 
  • Aptitude and desire to make math fun for students 
  • Demonstrable experience teaching elementary, middle and/or high school math
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and on-screen persona 
  • Minimum one year of experience working in a classroom setting preferred
  • Exposure to or experience in other than U.S. models of math education is a plus 
  • Familiarity with math competitions is a plus 
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with students, staff and colleagues around the program’s objectives, goals, and expectations 

Education

  • Bachelor degree in mathematics or related field from an accredited college or university

 

Workdays / Hours 

  • Teaching days on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
  • 1/2 day professional development
  • Three 2-hour sessions of synchronous instruction per day
  • Must be able to commit to an assigned daily schedule
  • Must be able to commit to the 6 week sessions
  • Flexible teaching blocks available throughout the day
